FAD QUESTIONS MARIO SUGHI
1 When did you start to make art?
I started in my fathers studio at a very early stage
2 How did you evolve into a professional artist?
In a way I am still not 100% professional. I am still working as a graphic designer for a company of Archaeologists in Dublin and I love it.
3 What drove you to make art as a professional vocation?
The need to have something that belonged to me entirely.
4 Explain your inspiration?
My inspiration is not more or less than a need to manipulate and play with images
5 In what way does your inspiration transform into ideas?
When the desire to play meets with the drawing tools.
6 From Ideas to production of art – how? And why?
Ideas are notoriously explosive. I try to direct that explosion into images.
7 Could your ideas be portrayed in any other medium? If so which?
No I don’t know. Drawing for me is the more natural way to express them.
8 Which artists would you most like to blatantly rip off?
Fontana (I am joking a bit)
9 Why is your art made?
For internal unconscious pleasure.
10 What does being an artists mean to you?
Sometimes a smile. Most of the time nothing.
11 Are you happy with your reasons for making art? i.e Are there any trade offs that make life hard?
A) Yes B) No
12 When does your art become successful?
When I am not the only one who likes it.
13 What is art?
The capacity to understand our sensitivity.
14 How do you start the process of making work?
I sit down and I start drawing. Then I leave the desk and I start thinking how to change the drawing when I will sit down next time.
15 Who prices your work? And how is the price decided upon?
The market (apparently)
16 What is your next; move,project,show etc?
I like the WEB and I love OnLine Magazines so am working at present, I am working at some proposals for; rubbishmag.com, CLAM magazine, theinternationalillustrated and FreeJohnMagazine
17 What are the pros and cons of the art market?
That you have to accept them
18 Which pieces would you like to be remembered for?
The one I still have to work on.
19 Any routine in making your artwork? If so what?
A full glass of wine beside me.
20 What has been the biggest break in your career?
My self confidence.
21 Who has been the biggest influence on you?
In my work Alberto Sughi and Siouxsie Sioux.
22 How many artworks have you given away and to whom?
Many to nice art magazines
