‘Heart of Glass’, organized in association with the Contemporary Arts Society, will form the centre piece of Concrete & Glass’s art strand

Heart of Glass in the basement of Shoreditch Town Hall is the central exhibition of the art strand of CONCRETE & GLASS. Organised in association with the Contemporary Art Society, the 33 emerging and established artists exhibiting in the show were selected through open submission out of over 150 proposals.
A panel of judges consisting of: Alison Goldfrapp, Marc Quinn, Gavin Turk, RachelCampbell-Johnston (Times Art critic), Paul Hobson (Director of Contemporary Art Society), IreneBradbury (Associate Director, White Cube) and Philippa Adams (Saatchi Gallery) will choose theirbest 3 works in the show, the winning artist being awarded a space and promotion for a solo show at Concrete and Glass 2009.

‘BROWN NOISE’
Aside from being a euphemism for many things scatological, the term Brown Noise is almost certainly an urban myth, describing a frequency of infrasound vibration that when experienced by humans is thought to induce certain physiological responses, including dizziness, nausea and a movement of the bowels.

The work of the four artists nominated for this year’s Turner Prize has gone on display at Tate Britain in London.
Mark Leckey, Goshka Macuga, Runa Islam and Cathy Wilkes are competing for the accolade, given to outstanding projects by UK artists aged under 50.
The winner of the £25,000 prize will be named on 1 December.

Sophie O’Brien said: “The Turner Prize is about showing things that are intriguing and surprising and interesting. “It is about creating debate and I think this year is just like every other year.
“All of the four artists do very different things and I think it is a really exciting year and people should come and see for themselves.”

The Turner Prize has traditionally been won by bizarre and often controversial work.

Previous recipients include Gilbert and George, Damien Hirst, and transvestite potter Grayson Perry.

Curated by Eat Your Own Ears’ Tom Baker, alongside Steve Lamacq, John Kennedy, Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, Bloggers Delight, Merok, Witchita Recordings, The Wire, Time Out and The Stool Pigeon, amongst others, and held across a staggering 18 venues, Thursday 2nd October will kick off with Beyond The Wizards Sleeve the Balearic behemoth formed by erstwhile Trash promoter Erol Alkan and former grid member Richard Norris. Other notable acts playing on Thursday will include former Clor front-man Barry Dobbin’s new band Barringtone, the proggy power pop of the hotly tipped Cats In Paris, North London troubadour Kid Harpoon, Franki Valli remixer Pilooski with the Dirty Sound System, psychedelic rockers The Oscillation and synth-pop noise-niks Semi Finalists plus more special guests to be announced.
