Sara Shamsavari has been selected as one of the leading artists heading “Love in the Sky”-a high profile experiential event that also includes acclaimed artists Tracy Emin and Goldie. The launch will take place on 30th June 2009 at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and artists will have their work showcased for a fortnight starting with the launch event where the work will be auctioned.

Love In The Sky opens in London at a time when the UK’s youngsters have been declared the unhappiest in the western world, materialistic values have failed us and the word ‘love’ is so over-used it’s lost it’s meaning. Love in the Sky asks us to imagine – what would we do if our aim was a world based on love?

Sara Shamsavari’s emotive photographs capture love’s presence in everyday life. Her works celebrate the diversity and the essential unity of the human experience. In a troubled world of division, materialism and conflict, Sara’s images show us that love can still be seen all around, reminding us of its potential to heal, unite and transform.

Sara is also interested in music and lyrics as a means of expression; Love in the Sky features a number of collaborations between Sara and other artists, including internationally renowned Soulful House innovator and DJ Kerri Chandler, and singer songwriter and vocalist for The Streets Kevin Mark Trail.

About the Artist
Born in Iran, in the midst of the revolution, Sara survived war, childhood cancer, excessive treatments and running from one country to another before finally settling with her family in the UK at the age of two. Surviving these experiences gave Sara a strong sense of purpose as an artist; she believes that artists are leaders in social and spiritual progress. Sara’s vision is to inspire, challenge and enrich through her work, bridging the gap between “high art” and community art.

Shamsavari’s photographs have exhibited in galleries and public spaces both nationally and internationally (Selfridges & Co, Camberwell Centenary Gallery, Danny Simmons Corridor Gallery and Topshop) as well as being featured in numerous magazines (including i-D, Graphotism and Let Them Eat Cake).
Sara also writes and performs music as an extension of her artistic work, and has performed both as a solo artist and as part of choirs and collectives in venues such as the V&A, London Living room, City Hall,
Roundhouse and Stratford Circus.
