Why i am supporting this:
Because as well as helping homeless people it will give some new young artists a platform and confidence to expand their work.
What i am looking for in entries:
Originality and good use of different mediums and a stunning colour palette…
1 When did you start to make art?
Starting making art when i was about 3 wearing a pair of Tartan Slippers in the back garden…
Then later started drawing characters and logos from 2000ad before graduating to painting Punk logos onto schoolbags for my classmates…
2 How did you evolve into a professional artist?
Moved to London and became head of design at SEGA this helped pay for me to experiment with my art whilst doing work that i enjoyed, then i walked out and became full time artist.
3 What drove you to make art as a professional vocation?
I always wanted to draw and design its quite simple really.
4 Explain your inspiration?
My Dad for all his architectural influences and always telling me to look upwards when walking down the street…
5 In what way does your inspiration transform into ideas?
It usually takes the form of a Trip somewhere, Dreams or some time in a library researching new ideas which i apply to my next piece of work. I am always thinking of new concepts and mediums to work in .
6 From Ideas to production of art ? how? And why?
I feel am urgent need to create my ideas and don’t leave them till they are finally realised. It something i have to do.
7 Could your ideas be portrayed in any other medium? If so which?
Currently looking at Pottery, Mosaic, Stain Glass also some etching. Really want to get into some repoussez Copper punching of my designs.
8 Which artists would you most like to blatantly rip off?
My dad (although i dont believe in copying)
9 Why is your art made?
Because i wouldn’t enjoy life without art
10 What does being an artists mean to you?
Being able to put my emotions on paper
11 Are you happy with your reasons for making art? i.e Are there any tradeoffs that make life hard?
No trade offs, there is just not enough time in the day…
12 When does your art become successful?
When i am happy with the finished image
13 What is art?
Making stuff with a passion and a touch of style… there is an art in packing dogfood :-)
14 How do you start the process of making work?
Doodling, Pencil sketches then usually make some lists and research the subject matter then more pencils sketches
15 Who prices your work? And how is the price decided upon?
Usual how much work goes into the piece i try to price it the same way i price an illustration or piece of graphic work.
17 What are the pros and cons of the art market?
Pros: you can make a living by painting what you want when you want.
Cons: People sell a lot of crap for a lot of money and the end result is art becomes a commodity and not looked at for its artistic merit.
18 Which pieces would you like to be remembered for?
Some of my early graffiti work and my Gold leaf prints (see aBOVE)
19 Any routine in making your artwork? If so what?
Potter about abit, usually have a bit of a OCD moment with my pencil sharpener then get stuck in
20 What has been the biggest break in your career?
Either getting the job at SEGA or doing a world tour with Jade Jagger, both opened up a lot of doors.
21 Who has been the biggest influence on you?
Graffiti, Archeology, Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement oh and Comic book artists Ian Gibson, Rick Leonardi and John Byrne.
22 How many artworks have you given away and to whom?
I am always giving away work… just catch me when i have had a few…
