Kerstin Gottschalk “white wash”

Thursday, February 1st, 2007
twenty+ 3 projects is pleased to present “white wash” by emerging Berlin artist Kerstin Gottschalk.

In “white wash”, Gottschalk will be showing three untitled pieces.  A thirty-centimetre strip of thick white wax that includes the ceiling, wall and floor. A selection of A3 low relief works that use white and transparent stickers to create patterns and build up surfaces.  A pile of white sticky dots stapled to the wall.

In Gottschalk’s work, objects become images become installations. The work is minimalist in inspiration but with a sensuality that references Eva Hesse. With a background in painting she subverts viewers expectations of painting and drawing.  “Using paint, cardboard, stickers and printers’ waste paper, her work takes ordinary exhibition spaces and destabilises them.” says the Berlin Museum Director and “Mart Stam” prize jury-member Jörn Merkert.

Kerstin Gottschalk has exhibited in numerous German galleries and has won or been shortlisted for a number of German prizes.  “white wash” is her first UK exhibition.

twenty+3 projects is a contemporary art space, run by artist Heidi Schaefer, located in the converted front room of a terraced house in Manchester.  It can be found at 23 Bury Avenue, Manchester, UK M16 0AT.

Kylie’s pants come to Manchester

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

WHEN Kylie Minogue cleared out her wardrobe, it wasn't a case of popping down to the charity shop with a couple of carrier bags. The Princess of Pop has turned it into an international art event - and it's going to Manchester.

The Aussie superstar has donated more than 300 pieces of clothing to an exhibition devoted to herself and her sense of style. The end result, which will go on show at Manchester Art Gallery on Mosley Street, will feature many of her fans' favourites from her stunning stage shows. Other exhibits will be from the celebrated `Showgirl' tour - which finishes at the M.E.N. Arena in January - alongside her outfit from her role as the Green Fairy Absinthe in the film Moulin Rouge. Gallery officials are expecting tens of thousands of Kylie fans to pass through the gallery's doors for the exhibition which will run from June 30 to September 2 next year.
